Vanessasaurus: How do research software engineers, individually or in groups, contribute to or maintain open source software? Can we identify common libraries and figure out how to work together on them? How can our community play a bigger role in open source?

This topic would also link to #7 - how can the two worlds better work together (open source software is one avenue!) There's also a distinction between "open source software I do on the weekends for fun" and "open source software that I work on as a part of my job."

This can be more extended as Community Edition Software(Open Source) and Enterprise Edition Software(Open Source) . One of the good example, from my ex-employer context, is Kubernetes and Open Shift.
