Videos of conference talks and other relevant presentations #48

ISCB and other groups often publish videos of talks on YouTube. One example is ISMB, a major annual computational biology conference. All or most ISMB 2023 talks are on YouTube. This year's conference has just ended and the talks will probably become available in a few months. See https://www.youtube.com/@ISCBtv

@ybukhman This sounds like another good addition, thanks for the suggestion! Want to take a stab at posting this one as well?

I'll put it on my to-do list. I have just come back from a trip and have a lot of catching up to do.

Thanks, no rush! I just finished revamping the instructions on how to contribute so they're a little easier to follow for folks w/out much git experience. See here for help: https://uw-madison-datascience.github.io/ML-X-Nexus/Resources/Guides/How-to-contribute.html

Hi @ybukhman . I'm debating whether or not we should post this as a playlist or post just one specific talk as a starting point. I'm leaning towards the latter option to leverage the fact that we can sort talks/resources by application categories (e.g., see Applications page). We can always link out to the full playlist for each video that gets posted. This way we can remove some of the noise and encourage people to write a little bit about the video they are posting. I think a little selectivity might be beneficial in making sure our resources are easy to navigate and truly hold value. What do you think?

Hi @qualiaMachine ! Posting individual videos with some comments sounds like a good idea. As for playlists, we may also want to point people to relevant YouTube channels, such as the ISCB channel.

@ybukhman Great! I just added a new template for posting talks/videos that cover ML applications. Want to try to find one talk to start with that you can post? In addition to describing the talk, you can link the ISCB channel in the description. We can then create an additional resource/page that talks about the ISCB playlist as a whole — using this template.

@ybukhman friendly nudge :). In case it helps, here's an example of what I consider a high-quality "Application - Highlight" post: https://uw-madison-datascience.github.io/ML-X-Nexus/Applications/Highlights/CrossLabsAI-CrossRoads45-METL-Biophysics-based-Protein-Language-Model.html

Please include similar sections for your post. Click "Improve this page" from the above link to see how I've formatted everything.

Maybe later, when they release the ISMB 2024 playlists on YouTube.

The example looks nice!
