We have discussed this via e-mails, but I just wanted to open an issue here to the public for further review and discussion.
Right now the name is "Ultimate Windows Boot CD." Right now this is acceptable because we are not a legal entity of any kind and are not profiting in any way. I feel as though we should take advantage of having "Windows" in the project name for as long as we can to help build more of a following. The intent is not to abuse the trademark of "Windows" in any way, obviously this community is based on the fundamental principle of maintaining Windows software. The intent is simply to correctly label for organic search purposes our project as being related to Windows software and make it more easy to find for interested developers.
As time goes on, if our organizational structure should evolve or concerns are expressed via a warning letter from the copyright holder (Microsoft), the need to change the name may arise and we should be prepared for that. For now I suggest linking everything with the acronym of "UWBCD," and only writing it out fully in posts/articles we write for outreach or other informational purposes. When naming our project, do so with this in mind, that the "Windows" trademark may be removed in the future. I personally would move that we simply replace it with another W word to make the transition a simple one, such as "Winders," which would be both an obvious reference as well as a bit of a humorous one.
Obviously all feedback is welcome, but if you have relevant legal experience and can properly cite information sources for others to research and concur, your feedback would be most valued.
