What is Google Speech Recognition? #499

I know this is not exactly an issue, but I haven't been able to find some relevant information by myself. I've been using speech recognition for my dissertation, and now I'm writing up the report, and I want to have a small section on google recognition. So which API is it using? Is it what google calls "web speech"?
