Where possible, the listed publications should include a DOI and that DOI should be made a clickable link. For publications that do not have a DOI, it would be nice to include a link to a pdf copy of the publications, if available. Also, it would be nice if the publications could be sorted by year or by type (journal/conference/book/other).

All of the above could be based on a Bibtex file, using the library citeproc.js http://citationstyles.org/developers/ Or a small javascript library like this one: https://github.com/pcooksey/bibtex-js

:+1: for the idea of some sorting (by first author name?). I would not choose 'year' as it might be to revealing on first sight, if there is a not so productive one:-)

Providing actual pdfs - could this be a legally problem, if the corresponding paper has been published in a journal? (or is there nowadays always a DOI?)

All journals assign DOIs to the papers and some conferences do it as well. Using the DOI is good, because it is permanent. We should not store pdf files on our server, just link to the pdf (if there is a copy available online). All IBPSA conference proceedings are available online! Even with journal papers, you are usually allowed to publish the "final draft" on arxiv or on researchgate.
