This is fundamentally a bwfmetaedit issue, but since we're not going to be able to change how they do things, autoBWF will have to adapt. Meanwhile, you can still downgrade to 1.3.8 (the .deb file on the https://mediaarea.net/BWFMetaEdit/Download/Ubuntu download page for 18.10 Cosmic seems to work on 20.04 Focal as well).
Direct link to the .deb file for v1.3.8: https://mediaarea.net/download/binary/bwfmetaedit/1.3.8/bwfmetaedit_1.3.8-1_amd64.xUbuntu_18.10.deb
Seems to be working under bwfmetaedit 21.07. Must have been a bwfmetaedit bug that has now been fixed.
When using bwfmetaedit 20.08, any text entered in any of the XMP fields appears not to get saved. However, after downgrading to bwfmetaedit 1.3.8, they magically materialize.
It seems that something has changed in bwfmetaedit's XMP import/export mechanism after v1.3.8 that conflicts with autoBWF's XMP XML serialization.
