Combing not consistently avoiding crossing walls #15019

Open orbitalr opened 1 year ago

orbitalr commented 1 year ago

Application Version

5.2.2

Platform

Windows 11

Printer

Custom (klipper)

Reproduction steps

Sliced model with combing set to all. Screenshot 2023-03-24 114244

Actual results

It's really inconsistent depending on the layer, what's in it and the progress of the layer. Sometimes it Result in blobs, scarring, stringing through walls.

This has done it between the end of one layer and the start of the next L199 i think. Screenshot 2023-03-24 115517

This layer its moved around the layer mostly fine, one small move crossing the wall which it probably shouldnt have done, then moved to a place it didnt print at then crossed the wall to start the remainder of the wall. L103 image

The next layer, 104, totally fine! image

Expected results

Nozzle to follow path through the shell like it does for the moves during the layer, or on some layers comb everywhere.

Hey @orbitalr,

Welcome to the UltiMaker Cura Github 🚀 Sorry, it took us a while to get back to you 😞

The new Cura 5.3 contains a fix for some combing issues.
When I sliced your model I got way less retracted moves. image

I also got less retracted moves when choosing Within Infill as combing mode. You can download it here: https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/releases/tag/5.3.0

It's still showing some odd behavior so I'll bring it up to the team to see what they can do to improve it. Fingers crossed 🤞
