discrepancy between HOSTS file and DNS #640

iron.start.me is not in hosts.windows, but, your DNS gives me:

C:\Documents and Settings\Chris Witkowski>nslookup iron.start.me Server: safedns.allover.co.za Address: 88.198.70.38

Non-authoritative answer: Name: iron.start.me Address: 0.0.0.0

and the page doesn't load in a browser. It loads when I switch to auto DNS.

nslookup bing.com gives me a couple of addresses, but, the page won't load until I switch to auto DNS (nslookup gives me the same addresses either way).

This is on XP. I also have an Android 11 tablet and I run DNS66 which gives me the choice of DNS, blocklist(s) or both and I get the same discrepancy. So far I haven't encountered this problem with any other domain names except on my Android 6 TV Box (also running DNS66) and only in Opera where saultstar.com got a 403 Permission denied and now gets 403 Forbidden but is OK in every other browser and device.

A simple discrepancy I could understand but this seems rather strange.

Ran into another web site, w3schools.com, that behaves like bing.com: nslookup gives 2 addresses, but, the page won't load until I switch to auto DNS.

Hi @zcwitkowski, thanks for reporting. There was indeed an issue in the DNS updater service. It's now fixed.
