[FEATURE REQUEST] Switch to Forge instead of using Pop Shell #52

Open amethystgosling163 opened 3 months ago

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Forge is a much more powerful tiling extension with more customization and keyboard shortcuts. Although it is a long time from now, Pop Shell will probably be unmaintained in the future sometime after the first stable release of System76's Cosmic Desktop, so I think it would be a good idea to move to this extension instead.

Describe the solution you'd like Replace Pop Shell with the Forge Fedora package and have Forge be enabled by default.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Does this have a launcher? If not any suggestion to replace it?

It doesn't but there is Search Light. It uses the GNOME Shell search which is much more powerful and easier to use. It's not available in the Fedora repos though so you'll have to maintain a package for it.

Edit: Despite what it says on Search Light GitHub page, the latest stable version of the extension works on GNOME 46.

I think that Forge has proper support for keeping all floating windows un-tiled and doesn't just keep an exception file for them like Pop Shell because the latter can't conceivably have every app's every floating window as exceptions. I think this because Forge has no option to add floating window exceptions, but Pop Shell does.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Forge has support for container splits, while Pop Shell doesn't.
