I can wright SMS in cyrillic, but they are received like P's and squares.

Which version are you using?
And does this happen with the original Android keyboard?

Now I am using version 20100328-x-dvtel(r 17) but the same was happening with
previous versions. The problem is not happening with the original keyboard. The
same
is happening with my husbants Moment and our sons Hero. That makes me think
that we
are doing something wrong. Please, help.

@dbriskin, you are using cyrillic fonts too, right?

Unfortunately can't test this out because I don't have SMS/MMS included with my
Data
plan, so I've never used the Messaging app. I use Google Voice instead (which
includes free unlimited texting within the US) and Cyrillic texts come through
just
fine there.

Apparently it's an issue with the stock Messaging app in all Android versions
prior
to 2.1, according to this thread:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3393 (see post #11).

I'm not sure if using 3rd party SMS apps (such as Handcent) would help, but it's
worth a try.
