[Feature Request] Logistics Transfers in Kerbin SOI using Funds #221

It would greatly simplify operations and usability of the logistics hub if we could purchase and send resources directly using Funds within the Kerbin SOI.

As an example, right now if I want to transfer fuel to an orbiting fuel tank I have to launch a fuel truck of some sort from the VAB/SPH, switch to the logistics hub, transfer this fuel from the truck to the orbital vehicle, wait for completion, switch back to the fuel truck, recover fuel truck.

I would like to be able to:

  1. Switch to logistics hub
  2. Select target vessel in orbit
  3. Select "Funds" as the source
  4. Select "Funds" as the fuel
  5. Select the resource to send and type in the amount of the resource to send
  6. Click send

Once done, the funds cost of the sent resource + the cost of the fuel to send that resource would be deducted from current funds (If not larger than current funds), else transfer is cancelled due to insufficient funds.

I also think this makes sense.

Cost should become higher the further you are from Kerbin. As in, a 2x fund multiplier for Duna, a 4x multiplier for Eve, etc.

DuoDex, I believe the goal is just to allow a station in Kerbin Orbit or its Sphere of Influence (SOI) to buy materials directly from Kerbin. This way we do not need to build a dummy rocket that only has resources and transfer those from the pad to the station.

Further from Kerbin SOI, like in the Muns SOI/Orbit...you have to ship resources in as usual.

DuoDex commented 9 years ago

That doesn't make any sense. If I can have materials shipped from Kerbin to a space station why can't I have them shipped to Jool?

Distance, time, and cost.

Distance: Jool's distance is far greater then that of the SOI of Kerbin. The amount of fuel needed to get there would have to vary based on the current distance and orbit.

Time: It takes time to get to Jool, A lot of time. While we (the players) get a fancy fast forward to compress time, the drones would not have the option. So you would have to place the order, the order would need to be filled, then sent. Depending on the distance to Jool, your order may get there in two years travel time.

Cost: The drones are small, they do not have that much fuel and so while they could be used in this manner...it makes no sense in for a small lifter to be able to travel to an entirely different planet.

While I can understand the desire to just order goods and have them get there. It would be very cheaty if it did not respect the same process that got you to the planet in the first place. This mod is about colonization...some times you need to plan more and be ready. And dealing with the unexpected is all part of the game.

True. I didn't think this through much. Perhaps in only Kerbin, Mun and Minmus SOI.
