What language are you using (English, Spanish, etc) on your machine, and what OS (Mac, Windows, etc) are you running? Thanks.

I have the exact same problem. Did you guys find any solution in the end?

@HarveyRichard2007 That is the issue. It seems when CAVE is run on a system other than English, it can experience unresolvable errors. The solutions are either to:

Let us know if either of these options work for you?

Hello again,

Thanks for the kind reply. I switched to English and the app opened correctly (a bit disappointed that an app's functioning depends on localization!), however now when I call up say a model product from the Product Browser, I see the progress messages at the bottom right of the window, which eventually stop, then nothing comes up on the screen. I only see the original CONUS outline against a black background and nothing else. Please tell me if you need more info in order to solve this.

Richard

Hi @HarveyRichard2007, Can we have you try and remove caveData and then restarting Cave? Also, I assume you're connecting to our edex (edex-cloud.unidata.ucar.edu)? Is that correct? After attempting to load a dataset again, could you take a screenshot of how CAVE looks? Also could you go to the CAVE menu > Open Alertview > and then either take a screenshot or copy and paste if there are any errors in there?

HarveyRichard2007 commented 2 years ago

Ok, will do momentarily!

Hello again,

  1. I do indeed use http://edex-cloud.unidata.ucar.edu
  2. I've deleted the caveData folder then restarted CAVE.
  3. When I try load the NEXRAD Display, it works fine. I have a CONUS mosaic reflectivity image displayed and I can animate it.
  4. When I try to load either satellite or model data (HRRR), I don't see anything, no feedback that something is wrong (which would REALLY help!), nothing.
  5. I've attached a screenshot of the app after loading the above mentioned data.
  6. No errors in AlertView whatsoever.
  7. I've attached a log file, clumsily copied and pasted from the rapidly scrolling text output in the black "DOS" window, just after I sent a command to load the surface relative humidity from HRRR -- there should be a better way to see logs.
  8. At the bottom of the file, you will see messages such as
    • "19:21:08.032 [main] WARN CaveLogger - Error loading bundle : bundles/grid/SfcRH.xml"
    • "org.eclipse.core.commands.ExecutionException: Unable to load bundle"
    • "Caused by: com.raytheon.uf.viz.core.exception.VizException: Cannot find bundle file: bundles/grid/SfcRH.xml"

So it looks like the problem is at your end (maybe)? Thanks, Richard

Hi @HarveyRichard2007 ,

I don't think your screenshot came through, but that might not be super helpful from the sounds of it.

Do you think you could install the vm option and try loading the model data through that method? I want to see if that makes any difference, and that will give us some more insight to what might be the problem.

We confirmed we are able to load both satellite and HRRR data on Windows, here, so we're fairly confident it isn't an general EDEX issue at this point, but running from the VM will give us some more information.

Thanks!
