I found that using the package shinyjsmakes for an easy solution, but feel free to reject this if we want to avoid introducing more dependencies.

Resolves #263.

Hi,

thanks for your contribution! I did not know shinyjs yet, so cool to see it and I think it is fine to add this dependency. Do you mind also updating the NEWS.md file?
