MIT to UCL License change? #2864

Closed ThusSpokeNomad closed 2 months ago

I recently observed a license change from MIT to UCL here: https://github.com/Unity-Technologies/com.unity.netcode.gameobjects/commit/e36996c209ee1228dff9304d8b3ef95af48cf22f

I'm curious if that was intentional and what was the main rationale behind it? Personally, I was expecting Unity Netcode to start open (MIT) and stay open (MIT) hopefully to even develop out in the open public too. Should we take this as a sign of being less open going forward and/or will there be any explanation or announcement behind the license change in Netcode 2.0.0?

There will be an announcement on the specifics behind this adjustment. What I can say until the announcment:

Beyond that, the announcement will explain all of the details better than I could (or would feel comfortable attempting to explain).
