I'd like to give this a try, if it isn't too much trouble to build and test?
In Face Edit mode, using the "Grabber" trigger could move the face via hand motion, not ray point (the current method, using pointer-trigger). This would work at all distances, and work 1:1 with hand motion.
As a secondary item to test, motion could be multiplied by the grid size. For example, if the face I'm moving is on the 1m grid (due to distance), and the "home" grid size (where my hand is), is 1/8m, then moving my hand 3/8m would move the face 3m.
