Support for brazilian subtitles #801

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Play videos with brazilian portuguese subtitles (.pb.srt and .pob.srt file
extensions)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The brazilian flag should be shown for brazilian portuguese subtitles. A white
ball is shown instead.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.20.409 on Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)

If you are transcoding a media file, which engine are you using (mencoder,
avisynth/mencoder, tsmuxer?)
mencoder, but that's not the problem...

If the media file is in error (or does not play flawlessly), what are the codec
informations of this file (you can use following program:
mediainfo.sourceforge.net) ?
not applicable

Please provide any additional information below and PLEASE JOIN debug.log file
!!

There is already support for Portugal's portuguese (pt, por) in PMS, but there
are some differences in the way some expressions are spoken in this language
that sound weird in brazilian portuguese. These differences are much larger
than the differences in british and american english, IMHO. There are even some
bad words in one that are freely spoken in the other... And not to mention
slang...

Some examples: pt: "a falar" -> pb: "falando"; pt: "fixe" -> pb: "legal". pt:
"cacete" -> pb: "pãozinho" ("cacete" is a bad word in pb!)

These differences justify the existence of two separate subtitles for videos
(you can see that www.opensubtitles.org handles this way), even the language
being the same.

For instance, the type of this issue should be "enhancement" or something like
that, I did not find where to change it from "defect"...
