I'm not convinced I should merge this. It would kind of create a precedent for fixing things for the unstable branch, and that is not a path I would like to go down. However, I do appreciate the contribution. Feel free to fork and publish a separate item for it, if you like.

Well, now it's erroring on the stable release, soo..

Even though it seems like a harmless error, I'm gonna just grab that fork in the interim.

Merged. Thank you for taking the time to research and implement this. The code for backwards-compatibility is especially appreciated.
