Well I could see this leading to a bug; some of the AIs archers at ground level and on the towers would constantly keep trying to shoot at an enemy ladderman at the walls with no effect (until the ladderman was eventually killed by melee troops) instead of shooting at targets which can be killed.
that's why i mentioned the siegetowers they simply get ignored by archers. the same thing would apply to the laddermen except they would be targeted by melee units (another example is monks and firebalistas)
This might be a good idea then.
The AIs response to siege towers needs fixed too, AIs can take a long time to send counter attacking melee troops to destroy it.
Building upon the idea of ladders being useless since they still die off easily even after reaching the wall in #37 i suggest making it so that laddermen that have reached the wall should only be able to be killed by melee units or spearmen tossing them over. Similar behavior can be observed with siege towers that tend to be not targeted by arrows anymore after reaching the wall (i know its a bug there since the towers are also mostly ignored by melee units, probably worth making a different topic for that also) while unrealistic in terms of the person would still be holding the ladder and not beeing killed while beeing a top priority target, it wouldn't introduce the need for new sprites while making laddermen actually useable since the defender would either have to recruit units that can toss over ladders or send out their melee units outside taking care of the ladders and in case the ladders not being taken care of they will stay there providing late units a way up the wall (not the initial wave most likely)
