Ranged unites are busy shooting on oxen #997

in my opinion, it is one of the biggest problems in the attack of the AI. The AI runs with its melee fighters in the direction of the enemy castle, while the ranged fighters are busy shooting the oxen over and over again. Thus, the ranged fighters are often useless in the actual attack.

I don't know if there is an elegant solution or if the AI would have to ignore the oxen in any way. The latter would of course not be in the spirit of the inventor. Maybe you can think of something?

I have thought about it again and asked myself why its just a problem with the ox tethers and not with the dairy farm. The respawn time of the oxen (tethers) is way too short. A nice solution would be to increase the respawn time of the oxen. This would make raids more beneficial as well.

This is a decent idea, I agree the ox at the oxen tether does respawn way to quickly and hamper ranged units advances.

This affects both attacking ranged units, and if a AI has ranged harrass units like slingers.

I'm just throwing a thought out there, on the topic of making raids more beneficial ; is it possible to change the spawn location of the Ox? Like, could you change the respawn from the tether to the keep instead, so the Ox spawns with the workers?

I generally usually ignore tethers when raiding because they're so cheap + the ox respawn is so fast. The time spent destroying them isn't worth it imo.

I see 2 possible solutions here.

  1. Spawn ox at the moment worker come to the tether. All cases, when he just came to his workplace, when he brough stone to the tether and return from quary with nothing. Respawn cooldown has still to be considered.
  2. Ignore ox from range attack targets until ox has stone with it.
