If you jump and are firing forward, you should really accelerate backward. Depending on how much recoil there is, You could totally imagine moving around propulsed by a gattling gun. There is even a whole video game about that. The basic principle is actually surprisingly realistic! https://what-if.xkcd.com/21/ has a look at how well the concept would work.
freem seemed enthusiastic about it (in french):
le chaingun-jetpack, je faisais sur liero :)
quand j'étais au lycée on s'éclatait à mettre le temps de reload a 0, mode armageddon, et du coup avec les armes a feu on pouvait voler... et se faire éclater en 1s si on faisait pas gaffe, parce que ça foutait des particules explosives partout
The added benefit is that suddenly, moving forward while firing will make you slower, helping aliens to flee. We should probably have a hard cap on the backward walking speed when firing though.
We can also consider doing it for the goon projectiles too.
… and it would be really cool if it did!
Here is a movie example: Gravity (2013) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AmDh6-RdlU?t=20 and later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv80VpPb--Y?t=08
