Additional info: Hydrogen bonding should work ‘cooperatively’ in the manner of Velcro (i.e., lots of tiny linkages together making quite strong bonds), so that it should be easy to break one hydrogen bond, but hard to rip apart two strands linked by a series of hydrogen bonds.
