[In serious mode only], the ability to switch to the cartoon ribbon mode without walking across the the room and loosing your place - maybe as a pH type switch on the other hand?

Makes sense to be able to switch the rendering mode when you are up close to the protein molecules in the tank - toggling back and forward afford understanding of the interfaces.
