DO NOT MERGE

This PR has been created to show the status of the Tripal 4 upgrade of this module. It should be used for testing purposes!

The 9.x-2.x branch should NEVER be merged into the current master branch

PS. we should evaluate our branching strategy as having a master branch that is not the main branch is confusing but I think we want to allow the Tripal 3 version of this module to exist on its own branch to allow backporting and bug fixes as needed.
