Alternatives discussed:

go pro seems to be the easiest of them all and we can hook up microwave transmitter and receiver will be in the car to have a live stream of the camera there are cheaper alternatives to go pro i have a feeling we can hack a regular go pro to hook it up with a HD transmitter

I just bought a knock off from China. Eken h8r, live feed 720p to your phone but the range is only 10m. The camera and 64gb micro SD was like 120 dollars cad. When it comes in I can let you guys have a look if it isn't urgent

i think that should do as we can have a live feed via phone upto 10 m, after that we can watch it on the wireless HD transmitter upto 250 m

lanelarochelle commented 8 years ago

I think it might even have mini hdmi, but I bought it for surfing biking snowboarding so I'm not sure it can do live through the port or just playback

@lanelarochelle Do you know the battery life on that camera? I was thinking we could 3D print a mount on the outside of the balloon that cameras clip into, then it doesn't really matter what they are, as long as they last long enough and can record the whole time.

It would be tough to integrate something like that into our wireless video, but the wifi link would be fun for takeoff!

Another gopro knockoff: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01DKBVAWC?psc=1 It has 80 min of battery life at 1080p, usb 2.0 and hdmi and costs $103 CAD

lanelarochelle commented 7 years ago

Sorry I missed that! The battery will not make an hour while recording.

@ottopasuuna Suggested using a Raspberry Pi (zero) an use the cameras and i2c/spi bus to interface with sensors. This would allow us to prototype the rover software as well
