"Retreat" for another work sprint on this project? #78

I was thinking that we should have another work sprint on this thing. I plan on coming to Canada in December, so was thinking that maybe we could plan a 4-5 day work/coding retreat to work on another paper for this (and if anyone else is interested, maybe do some work on the rostools stuff).

During the retreat we could plan work sprints interspersed with other activities (maybe like snowshoeing or something and drinking and dinner and whatnot). Maybe include some short presentations/"new things we might be interested in" or something.

While we'd of course share the cost, I'll cover more of it given everyone is on a PhD salary :)

I'm willing to be the lead organizer for this and delegate tasks out as needed.

It's early enough that we could start planning and organizing this well in advance and get a decent place (maybe more north?) for a decent price.

Thoughts??

This sounds so fun! Thanks for offering to organize! I will miss it since I am in Vancouver and Sweden then =(, but I am more than happy to interact from a distance (in a non-spooky way).

What will the new paper be centred around? ROS-tools more than the course? Or another angle of the course with the second edition?

I was thinking mostly around writing about the feedback from the course and how we've improved it etc. Then (if there is interest) doing some of the rostools stuff afterward. But I'm also all for doing another retreat for the rostools stuff :wink:

Sorry for late reply back to this. Definitely won't be able to do something for this year. We should try to get more involved before booking something concrete. Plus, winter may not be nicest time to go out on a retreat.

Who would be interested in a retreat in the summer? Who would be around and available? @joelostblom are you going to be in Ontario again?

@aays you guys collecting more feedback data this term right? It would give us more data to draw from if we write up something about this course.

Unfortunately I don't have anything planned for now. Maybe for fall or winter convocation next year if things go well... But likely not summer dues finishing PhD thesis, oh maybe for my defense in fall, not sure if I can do that remotely.
