Operating System and Device Info/Branding not shown for Universal Analytics properties #359

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Name of affected component: Measurement Protocol

Issue summary:
Operating System and (Mobile) Device Info/Branding not shown for Universal
Analytics properties.

Steps to reproduce issue:
1. Create a new property, set it up as a "Website", using Universal Analytics,
and with some dummy URL for the site.
2. Create a new view and submit hits using measurement protocol using that view
name as the app name.

Expected output:
Audience->Devices and Network->Devices page shows e.g. Operating System
dimension correctly, with versions accessible by clicking the OS name.

Actual results:
Audience->Devices and Network->Devices page shows e.g. Operating System
dimension as "(not set)".

Notes:
It seems that the above case works correctly if a property is used which is
originally configured just as a "Mobile App" instead of configuring to use the
new Universal Analytics (and setting profile as Website). The goal here is to
use the same analytics client code in an application to submit analytics data
from both desktop version of the application and mobile versions (using
measurement protocol.

Hi! Has this been addressed? I have been researching and researching to see if
I'm missing something and found this. I have the same goal which is to use one
tracking code for both desktop and mobile and for some reason, it doesn't show
the app versions and Mobile Device info for Android.

Since my case was about apps and not websites, I ended up using "Mobile app"
also for desktop apps.
