We were wondering if a questionnaire is really a good method for what you are trying to achieve? Difficult to measure precise levels of competitiveness or fatigue in self-reported method? Have you thought about a Likert scale or binary measure?

We were wondering if adding soft-ball questions would actually improve learning or if it would lead to many repetitions of easy items and little repetitions of difficult items

Is the competition based on correct answers total - correct answers per item - or something different (RTs?)

The questionnaire is meant to shed light on what type of 'competitiveness personality traits' benefit from competition. Ideally, with our insights, a short survey in the beginning could then adapt the user model and competition elements to provide maximum benefit. There are several established questionnaires we can use, mostly likert-scale types. We still need to figure out how many 'levels' of competition there are, and how to translate survey results into the user model.

Your point about the soft-ball questions is valid, and we will probably not do that.

The specifics of our competition element are still unclear, but we think that this is a secondary issue that will probably not have great effect within the scope of our project. thanks for your feedback :)
