Students cannot get access and there is no clear instruction on what to do for them #11

When students attempt to join the Utrecht University organization, they get an "access denied" error. Is this intentional?

Indeed they cannot become a member. This is for this moment intentional because the scope of the project is Research, and we currently don't want to allow all students to become a member. We understand that in some cases it would be desirable to have students as member, but unfortunately this is not technically possible.

Students can however be invited as external collaborators to repositories: https://github.com/UtrechtUniversity/getting-started#inviting-external-collaborators The organization readme also mentions that students cannot become a member of the organization.

The error message is unfortunately rather unclear, but this is something we cannot do anything about.

Any ideas to communicate this more clearly are welcome!

While I understand the current position and reasons, I think in the long term we should search for ways to allow students to contribute under the Utrecht University banner that is more intuitive than considering them as external collaborators. Papers and thesis works of students equally much can have interesting code as other researchers, and maybe in some cases the code can be very useful for downstream applications for other researchers. Having it be discoverable under Utrecht University would be a nice long term goal.

I'd also be happy to hear about your ideas if you do not think that this is a good idea down the line :)
