Often grades need to processed for a course that is no longer offered in the current academic year, while the old academic year is no longer active. The grade should then be registered in the current academic year, but we want a way to do that without re-activating the old course in the current year in all of the linked systems.
Proposed solution
We make an option available for admins to create an extra attempt within an old course instance, with a set date and a specific set of students. Once set up, the examiner(s) can submit grades for these students in the old existing Canvas course. Grades will be processed using the date and corresponding term set up by the admin.
Example:
Course X has taken place in 20/21 and does not take place in 21/22
Student A still needs a grade for X but we are now in 2022
The admin enables late grading in existing 20/21 instance for X, setting a date of May 2022 and selecting student A
The examiner is instructed to go to the old Canvas course (which will be ended in Canvas, but still accessible under old courses) and submit the grade
The grade is processed to SIS with exam date of May 2022, in term 2211 (a class in the right session is created automatically)
