Switch to libRocket GUI? #109

Closed logzero closed 10 years ago

The recent GUI rewrite was to make it more configurable(HTML alike), though there are limits due to ini format.

One alternative might be to switch to http://librocket.com. This would be another big rewrite. But we would get a more complete/flexible HTML/CSS based GUI interface.

Hmm... looks interesting, but not particularly active - last release dec 2010, last news item over a year ago and about 40 commits in the last year. Are we sure we want add another dependency?

Dunno, looks active to me for a stable lib/project: https://github.com/lloydw/libRocket

My first thought when I ran across it was like: "Damn. I wish I would have known about it 6 months ago." Given your lack of contributors I would tend to reuse available libs instead of writing own code, unless one enjoys writing it (working on GUIs is not my favorite activity).

Our current implementation is still missing features I'd love to see, like widget/item lists. And there are a few bits missing to make HUD a gui page. It is all doable, but it means less coding time for other areas.

Fair enough. It certainly does look pretty cool. What does your to-do list look like at the moment? Can we get a release out with the new sim code soon, then work on this?

wontfix, sticking with current gui code
