Placeholder: revisit whether we should show only subsetted data as default in viz tab #387

The visualization tab should show subsetted data by default.

Currently, the plotted points only include data from the selected subset, but the full dataset is being used to:

  1. Determine axes ranges
  2. Fill in the min and max values in the range selection boxes (and also bin width calculations?)

Conversely, the data completeness table is showing the number of instances with (and without) data in the subset (not the full dataset

Feedback from David:

Somewhat annoying that when I subset UMSP to samples from >2014 only, default display comes up for full date range (2007 onwards) … which means that I need to wait to regenerate graph when I reset date range. Default graph should be based on range of data displayed (after subsetting), not range of data in full dataset.

Discussed in 7/25/2022 & 8/1/2022 EDA UX meetings.

Decision:

Turn the ticket into a placeholder… we will revisit UI with larger studies (and line plots!) once Range selector buttons (Full vs Auto-zoom vs Custom) has been implemented and speed has been increased

In 7/29/2022 EDA UX meeting we discussed using the filtered range for only terms where the user had actively applied a filter... when we revisit this feature, consider this option:

For terms that were actively used as a filter → range of the filter that was applied (NOT range of subset, if other filters affect the range in the subset)

For terms that were NOT used as a filter → full range from the entire dataset via the variable annotations, not the subsetted data
