Gradient overlay is dependent on the range of the full dataset, not my subset. If I subset the data to one extreme of the range of the continuous overlay, there is no diversity in the colors assigned to my markers.

Consider assigning gradient colors dependent on the range of variable in my subset instead of the full dataset.

For example, in LLINEUP I subset the data so that "Female anopheles count" ranges from 0-50.

Then I created a scatter plot of age vs hemoglobin, and overlayed "Female anopheles count". All of my data points are the same grey color.
