EDA filtering issue relevant to SAM - cannot apply a filter if all data for that filter has been removed from subset #678

Currently I cannot apply a filter if previous filters have removed all of this data from my subset.

We should change this to allow application of filters with no data remaining in the subset. The reason for this is that I want to set up a set of multiple filters and then twiddle the knobs... and this twiddling may make the data available.

For example, I want to look at the mortality rate of Anopheles gambiae complex mosquitos in response to different antibiotics. Anopheles quadriannulatus has no data remaining in the subset I set up (looking at the insecticide deltamethrin), but it does have data in the megastudy. perhaps there is data for this species in response to another insecticide.

Are we suggesting to enable the checkboxes, but keep the greying out?

I agree that we need to look into this further. It's a big change from the UX perspective. For this particular use case I can see that the workaround is to filter first on species before doing the rest of the explorations, but I agree we are imposing an artificial limitation here.
