@johannehouweling, consider making a pull request for each branch you are developing on. Then you can use the GitHub PR functionality to add comments, etc.
You can mark a PR as "draft" and complementary, you can add [WIP] in front of the PR title for 'work in progress'. If you then assign it to yourself, then everyone should understand the intention.

You can continue pushing to your branch, and GitHub will update the PR.
