Needs Java SE 6 to run #44

Not sure, but I think there was no hint that this JAR needs Java 6 to run.
This prohibits its use in our project, though :-( too bad.
Maybe you could refactor it.

This was raised before (See Issue 32 and Issue 38).  Unfortunately there are 
lots of
dependencies on Java 6 that it will be too much to port back to 5.
If there are any takes, I'll help in the back-port.  But I honestly do not have 
the
time to port back to 5, and 5 is reaching it's end of life anyway.
