I have disabled syslog, and have restarted the platform, to see how much that is contributing and whether the instance will stay up longer.
OK, this seems to have been related to #1223 but in this case an my log aggregation server was backing up, and rsyslog was consuming too many sockets. I'm going to close this due to the external environment input, and that #1223 seems to be more directly a volttron issue.
The only way to get VC to start responding is to restart the entire platform
