VPManske / Digital-White-Cane

The Digital White Cane is a primary electronic mobility head mount aid for use by people who are blind or visually impaired; it is a major "step forward" in assistive technology that allows safe obstacle avoidance and permits navigation around obstacles both in the user's forward path and whatever direction the user turns their head before walking in that direction, giving valuable protection at head/chest height while the cane still cover ground obstacles.

Check for interference between the IR sensors #4

Donnie suggested that they might be interfering with each other. I suggest setting up the headband in a place that it should see nothing. Find a motor that seems to be randomly twitching and unplug the sensors that are connected to other sensors one at a time. If once there is only one sensor and one motor see if the motor still twitches. If not there is interference

Got some wierd results trying to isolate the intermittent blips when the sensors are pointing at nothing.

I measured (with a volt meter) the analog output of the center sensor. It bounced around .2 to .4 volts. Then I disconnected the other four sensors from the Arduino and grounded the analog pins. It seemed to have little to no effect on the number and magnitude of the blips coming from motor 3. The voltage on the output still bounced around a lot. Hard to tell if it was more or less noisy but it the noise was caused by interference from the other sensors it should have dropped to zero.

Will put a scope on it next time.
