Suggestion: re-evaluate the policy that users may sign up for a dining list with a negative balance.
I see a lot of -0.50 EUR balances from people who joined 1 or 2 dining lists and then left, leaving a negative balance. We can likely not retrieve these kitchen costs.
I think the options that are currently available for upgrading balance are sufficient to only allow sign ups with a positive balance. Given that we communicate the available options clearly (the banner is already very nice):
The user can ask someone else (for instance the cook) to add them as 'external'.
The user can find a board member and ask to upgrade his account.
This has the additional advantage of functioning as a verification mechanism: users can only join a dining list after having contact with another diner or a board member.
