4 years ago Since upgrading to DSpace 6, the usage stats seem to be working reasonable well, so we have decided to not issue a system alert. However the fuller situation is:
We have recently upgraded the software that runs VTechWorks and migrated our usage stats to the new system. Usage stats continue to be incremented correctly. File downloads are added to the "Downloads" stat in Simple Item View, e.g. https://vtechworks.lib.vt.edu/handle/10919/84164. Usage is added to "(Item) Visits" and "File Visits" in the "View Usage Statistics" page, e.g. https://vtechworks.lib.vt.edu/handle/10919/84164/statistics. However, there is a delay of at least 15 minutes for stats to be incremented.
In the "View Usage Statistics" page, the usage will appear in two entries for each item or file: "Stat(legacy)" and "Stat," for example, "Electromagnetics_Vol1.pdf(legacy)" and "Electromagnetics_Vol1.pdf." "Stat(legacy)" includes usage before the latest upgrade. "Stat" includes usage since the upgrade. The two must be added to get the total usage statistics for an item or file.
We will soon start a month-long process of upgrading all the older stats to the newer form so there will eventually be just one statistic for each item or bitstream in the "View Usage Statistics" page.
This month-long process will be on ~100 million records and may cause performance issues. We will be monitoring the situation and adjusting the process, as required. Please let us know if experience trouble.
