Dota 2 fullscreen window initialization on 2016 MacBook Pro #1161

Open Alexs7zzh opened 7 years ago

Alexs7zzh commented 7 years ago

I have just bought a MacBook Pro late 2016 today. And found Dota2 is unplayable. The screen crashes everytime I ran dota2. I have tried to reinstall dota2 but no help. screen shot 2017-01-23 at 11 30 40 pm

Hello @Alexs7zzh, please copy your system information from steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

Does the system stay locked up with the red screen or is it still usable?

Alexs7zzh commented 7 years ago

The system locked up. Inside the dota is fine, but I can't do anything beyond dota, unless I quit it.

gdrewb-valve commented 7 years ago

What video settings are you using? If you're using a fullscreen mode and switch to windowed does the system function normally in addition to Dota?

Alexs7zzh commented 7 years ago

I tried "-windowed" but didn't work.

gdrewb-valve commented 7 years ago

To start windowed use the launch option -sw. You can set the window width and height with -w and -h.

gdrewb-valve commented 7 years ago

Also, as you said that Dota is fine, you can change your video settings directly in Dota.

Alexs7zzh commented 7 years ago

yeh windowed use is fine, although it opens as a window as big as a fullscreen... So what should I do next? Or just play in windowed mode... Thanks!

gdrewb-valve commented 7 years ago

Were you using exclusive fullscreen or desktop-friendly fullscreen? If you try the other kind of fullscreen does that work?

Dota uses SDL to handle fullscreening so I'll assign this to the SDL dev.

Alexs7zzh commented 7 years ago

I haven't set any kinds of fullscreen before. Just installed it and ran it. So... How can I figure out what kind of fullscreen I am using? And how to change it? Thanks a LOT.

gdrewb-valve commented 7 years ago

Click on the gear icon on the upper-left of the main menu to get to settings. Select the video settings and on the left-hand side you'll see what it chose for you. If you are using defaults it should be desktop-friendly fullscreen (unless you start with -sw, which will override the settings).

Thank you! The problem is solved! BTW, a small problem left. Can I customize the mouse size?

I think this is far too big..

gdrewb-valve commented 7 years ago

Go to the Options part of settings and in the lower-right turn off "Automatically choose cursor size" and slide the Cursor Size slider to whatever size you prefer.

Thank you!
