[Broken][Urgent] Black screen with cursor #1817

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When I start the game, I get a black screen with a the game cursor. After 3-5 mins, I get the background music but the black screen is all I can see.

Tried -novid option but it didnt help
Tried -prewarm option but it didnt help either

crap2.zip And the there was a crash dump.

For reference, the attached minidump is a DUMP_REQUESTED in crashhandler.so.

@kisak-valve can you please just tell me if that means something wrong with my system or something is amiss in the packaged game files?

I have the same issue. Game will show a blackscreen on launch with all sounds present. I can even click around but I cannot see anything. Only happens when I leave my PC unattended for a while with screens turned off. Tried it with -vulkan and without.

When I restart my display manager DotA willl work again. A few days ago I had no issues.

@AutoAwesome what is the display manager that you are using ?

@amitavmohanty01 I use SDDM. Plasma 5. But I have to correct my words: Restarting my DM doesn't work always. But restarting the entire PC works always until I turn off my screens and leave my PC unattended for a while.

@AutoAwesome Try using some other window manager. I have Plasma and awesome WM. I have seen better behaviour in awesome WM. See, if you can try any other window manager.

@amitavmohanty01 I won't change my DM for DotA. It worked a few days ago flawlessly. I will wait patiently for a fix :D

@amitavmohanty01 Try to disable "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" in the Dota2-Properties in steam and delete the "Vulkan DLC". This fixed everything for me!

@AutoAwesome I think the Vulkan DLC is for trying out the new Vulkan API instead of the established OpenGL APIs for graphics. Generally, I have issues with Vulkan shader pre-caching so I am thinking of disabling that. If that does not work, I will remove the Vulkan DLC completely.

I believe the shader pre-caching effort was a good initiative from Valve but if it causes so much trouble and I lose MMR or get bans for it then it is not worth enabling.
