Dota 2 taking up more than twice the amount of space on OSX

Dota 2 is taking up 75 gb of space on my MBP. Steam says it requires 35, but then it takes up 75-80 gb upon installation. That is absolutely absurd. Your game simply isn't that complicated. It's a tricked out custom map from WC3.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

1. Have a Macbook
2. Install Dota2
3. Watch as it bloats your computer and takes up most of your HD

I have run in a similar issue where I had to free around 80GB to download the game. If I delete it all that space is becomes free, but the game file says it is only 36.5GB.
