Blink goes on cooldown from rot when delivered by courier #1176

Open Lokiedota opened 2 years ago

Item name

Blink dagger

Description

If you're playing a hero like Pudge and you have rot on when you get delivered a blink from courier it will have 3 second cooldown on activation. Same if you had rot activated 2 seconds ago when you get the blink delivered, it'll have 1 second cooldown. It also goes on cooldown even if you didn't take damage from the rot, in the linked game I had flesh heap on and was taking 0 damage from rot and it went on cooldown either way when delivered from courier.

Courier isn't required you can achieve the same behavior by dropping the item.

Observered behavior:

Using Rot does not put Blink on CD.

Dropping blink and picking it up, does not put blink on CD.

Using rot, dropping blink and picking it up within 3 seconds, puts it on CD.

dropping blink, using rot and picking up blink within 3 seconds puts it on CD.

Blink always goes on cooldown when you took player-based damage within the last 3 seconds, regardless of where it is.

Even when it is still in the shop, it will be immediately on cooldown once purchased.

This is intended and got added to prevent people from cheesing blinks by either dropping, backpacking or flat out buying the item next to (the former side) shop.

Should it be intended for self damage like Rot though? I don't see a scenario where you could cheese with Rot on/off by dropping Blink Dagger. If Rot is the only damage source, then you could just not drop Blink Dagger and use it normally. If you are taking player damage from other sources, then Blink Dagger will still have the 3 second cooldown regardless of Rot being active or not.

Does this affect other heroes with self damaging abilities (for example, Dark Pact on Slark) as well?

Puts blink on CD: Dark pact on Slark Boodrage on Bloodseeker. Morphling as slark or pudge. Rubick with rot.

Does not put blink on CD: Soul ring Terrorblade: Sunder or himself, or teammate, does not affect blink in any way.

No it isn’t intended as rot and other self damaging spells do not usually put the blink on cooldown. It is intended that blink goes on cooldown from player based damage (that otherwise would put it on cooldown) regardless if it’s dropped or just delivered from courier. But considering rot doesn’t cancel blink unless it is just delivered from courier, it’s a bug.

Self-damage should not trigger Blink’s global damage check, as self-damage usually does not put Blink Dagger on cooldown, I forgot to consider that aspect of Blink’s global damage check component, my bad.
