Certain Japanese translations missing… but only for some people?

Hey there!

I came across an interesting phenomenon: certain lines in my game are English, despite my client being set to Japanese. I've always thought this was "normal", as in the lines were just generally not translated yet, until I saw some Twitch streamers running the game with the correct, translated lines. But then other streamers seem to have the same problem as I do?

• I'm running Manjaro Linux (latest updates as of 2022-12-12) — Unfortunately, I cannot verify what OS the streamers were using
• My computer's language is set to Japanese and it has been the case ever since I installed my OS.
• The display language of Steam (both store and client) is set to Japanese, this was also the case when the game was installed.
• In the Steam library, the DOTA2 language settings do not have Japanese as an option and therefore is set to English by default. (The selection is limited to English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Russian)
• The in-game Settings menu shows Japanese as the selected language (here the menu has a lot more options)

The issue in detail:

• The streamer with the same issue as me appeared to also miss the same lines that I do.
• The missing lines are always consistent.
• The translated lines appear to be always in the correct place and are not mixed up.
• I am aware that Hero and Item names are not translated anyway.
• There doesn't seem to be any rule as to what lines are missing, for example, from Anti Mage's ability descriptions, Blink is translated, but the rest is not. Some heroes are completely translated, some are not at all.
• The only error that appears to affect gameplay is the Missing Hero line. (Alt+Clicking a hero icon from the top bar during a match to call Missing). Normally it would say something like "Mirana is missing!" but in my client it only says a code starting with something like "#dota_" and doesn't even mention the hero name. This, again, only happens when certain heroes are pinged, some are working just fine. Since the hero name is missing I sometimes have no way of knowing what they actually meant.

So far I have tried:

• Verifying the local game files (twice)
• Changing the language setting to English and then back to Japanese again

What else is there to do about this? Can I do anything to help?

I can confirm this. Mine also looks exactly the same. My guess is that the streamer might be using an older patch of the game. And when they update the game, the translation was broken. but then again, the option to change the language to Japanese isn't even possible without the Launch Options command. So I guess they don't really put it on priority

I'm running windows 10 by the way so this probably affects all clients for sure (Cause they always have these half EN-JP translations issues)

It sucks that the community translation team is working hard and a good deal of the playerbase simply cannot see their effort.
