Stuttering leading to freezes and eventual crashes #6903

Description

As title says, all throughout the game, sometimes as soon as it enters the main menu and into matches, there will be stutters that last for maybe a quarter of a second. eventually there will be 1 or 2 long freezes and eventually the game will freeze the entire computer forcing me to restart. After getting back into the game the stutters will continue as do the freezes.

I've tried changing loads of graphics settings as well as have nothing but steam and Dota but nothing seems to help with the issue and unfortunately I can't trace it back to a particular patch or hardware update. Even tried reinstalling Windows 10 to try and fix it to no avail.

Does this also happen in local lobbies or demo mode?

The stuttering definitely still happens in demo mode even when it's just my hero in there. The freezing usually takes a while to happen and sometimes doesn't happen at all so I've never been in demo mode long enough to find out if it happens there too.

This still isn't fixed. I have this problem too, with AMD CPU and GPU. PC just randomly freeze when im playing in ranked matches, custom games and when im just looking at hero in the hero-grid. Only DOTA 2 crashing, other games, soft - works perfectly.

Glad it's not just me! I've recently upgraded my graphics card to a 6900xt and it's STILL happening. At this rate I'll basically have a while new computer and it'll still happen lol

15078 Possible the same issue. Do You still have the issue?

I don't but I basically had to upgrade my entire system to do so and even still the only thing that truly got rid of it was a driver update for CS2. That bit could be coincidental but they are both Source 2 engine games.

@G0dlik3Mang0 Could you describe the steps that helped you fix the issue, please? What is CS2?

So I'm my experience when AMD released a driver update for my card that included support for counterstrike 2, valves other games that's now in the source 2 engine, that's when Dota stopped freezing for me.

Like I said before it could just be a coincidence but after that update I didn't get the issue anymore.

@G0dlik3Mang0 Interesting, I have the same issue on AMD rx460 and Nvidia gt1030. My drivers is up to date. What is Your driver version?

It's a 6950 XT but I can't tell you the driver version as I'm not at home and won't be for a few weeks. Sorry!
