Symptoms

Game propably contains WMV videos, so error pop up window is shown before any playback (I cant see event first frame, just black screen and error dialog). "CPAL3D: Cannot initialize windows media video playback. Please reinstall the game." ... and then game is terminated.

You would also need to use some form of the following or something close to this: $ WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.steam/steam/SteamApps/compatdata/65710/pfx winecfg $ "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 3.7/dist/bin/wine" $ "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 3.7/dist/bin/wine64"

I've installed wmp11 doing the above, but for the game I tested it with the wmp installation just wasn't the right thing.

winetricks comes with cabextract so winetricks needs to be installed. winecfg needs to be used to change to Winxp for installation of wm11 (as it needs xp for install). Since this game can run on Winxp and throws up a problem for playing wmv then it just might work.

So to use the above with the link it would be something like: $ "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 3.7/dist/bin/wine64" wmfdist11 but I can't remember at the moment if it was wine or wine64 that's needed. I'm thinking it was 64 since the prefix is 64bit.

Hi,

I'm doing some research for my issue at number 1464. That issue deals with cinematic/video playback. Most of the listed games already have a proton log attached to their issue, but this game does not.

Could somebody be so kind as to upload a proton log from a clean install?

I need to search in the proton log for mentions of MF or quartz, so that I can categorize the game.

5933 Identical issue. Same game engine and same error

Was able to install wmp9 via proton-ge verb fix for my case (Memento Mori), but it didn't resolve the issue.
