Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed (387340) #19

Open FurretUber opened 6 years ago

FurretUber commented 6 years ago

There are some elements that fail to load in the game. The videos from the opening does not load, neither the Idea Factory logo, Compile Heart logo and opening video. After that, in game, some elements don't work too, as most of the characters elements and some enemies, as doggos. One funny thing is the fact the Steam Overlay does not show the FPS.

Here is one screenshot showing the "Action" part of the game:

I would like to thank you for this effort. Neptunia U was rated as "Garbage" and completely unplayable. Now it's pretty good, nearly perfect. :+1:

Is this game built on the unity engine? If so, your issue happens because Stream Output is not supported on dxvk.

FurretUber commented 6 years ago

It has a CryWare logo in the intro (in the part that works), so I don't think it's Unity3D.

With Proton 4.2-1 there were significant improvements, The characters are appearing normally, the Steam Overlay is working normally and the performance became better (at least on par with Windows, but I would say even faster in some moments) when using the i965 driver. The opening videos still do not load, however.

The rendering when using i965 does not seem perfect: there are a few visual problems that have minimal effect on game play: the mini map may blink for a brief moment, as if it appeared rotated, and when paused certain animations continue to be played at the same rate of the mini map blinks.

Here is a video showing this.

This is one of the few Wine games that is currently working correctly with the iris driver. However, the performance hit is very significant, as the game runs at 15 FPS.

With Proton 4.11-2 using D9VK on Intel HD Graphics 520 using Mesa 19.3.0-devel (git-f58e0405b6), the game works as it worked when Proton was released, but this time using Vulkan instead of OpenGL: many 3D elements don't load:

20190826221716_1

Using OpenGL, both i965 and iris, the game performs well but the bugs in the mini map and no videos are still present. intel-gpu-top shows around 65% of GPU load using both drivers.

Here is the log (using D9VK): steam-387340.log

Edit: 15 minutes later, 4.11-3 was released. The situation is the same as in 4.11-2.

Hi

I seam to have found a regression with the latest version of Proton, 5.0-1 where the game crashes at launch when reaching title screen. This issue was not present in the previous 4.11-12 version of Proton. Previously the videos would not load but you could skip past them and reach the title screen and then the game would work normally.

kisak-valve commented 4 years ago

Hello @Rugaliz, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.

Rugaliz commented 4 years ago

@kisak-valve i left the log in this link. I'll paste the complete log if this doesn't work https://pastebin.com/gGE43X2h

kisak-valve commented 4 years ago

All that tells us is that DXVK/D3D9 is used. I'd prefer to look over the full log as an attachment for any hints of how the game crashed. (Please do not copy/paste the log into the comment box.)

You may get lucky trying PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1.

steam-387340.log OKay sorry my bad. Still a noob with github

ryester19 commented 4 years ago

In case you need another one (I'm using the aco compiler and fsync): steam-387340.log

kisak-valve commented 4 years ago

Hello @Rugaliz, @ryester27, "Fix frequent crash introduced in Proton 5.0-1 related to video and audio playback." in Proton 5.0-2 should have helped with the regression, please retest.

ryester19 commented 4 years ago

Proton 5.0-2 works for me again. Some recent commits to DXVK should also bring compatibility up to par with WineD3D

Rugaliz commented 4 years ago

@kisak-valve Can confirm game works as before with Proton 5.0-2!

CygnusTerminal commented 3 years ago

steam-387340.log Videos don't work, only a black screen, and can't get past it.

kisak-valve commented 3 years ago

Hello @CygnusTerminal, can you check if the game behaves better for you with an older version of Proton? Looks like videos weren't working before and Proton might be trying harder to make that happen than before.

CygnusTerminal commented 3 years ago

Hello @kisak-valve, game works with 5.0-10 albeit it suffers microfreezes every 5 seconds, and a CTD after clearing a floor of the Tower. Attaching logs and my laptop specs https://gist.github.com/CygnusTerminal/a71593d9b692e6b59167fed0f9ed705e steam-387340.log

Still hangs at the point where it would view splash screens etc with 6.3-7. steam-387340.log

Proton 5.0-10 "works", but neither gamepad nor keyboard does anything, which happens to be kind of important. In other words, this game is completely unplayable with proton atm :/

With 5.0-10, at least for me, the black screens are where the videos should be, but you can actually skip past them by using a controller or left click. Have you tried this on a fresh prefix (deleting the existing one and letting it start over fresh on 5.0)?

Anything higher/newer outright breaks because of the work to make videos run, but the videos trying to run and then failing prevents it from continuing at all. I'll attach a log from running the game, though in the mean time the error I know popped up frequently was Missing decoder: Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) (video/x-ms-asf)

kattjevfel commented 3 years ago

@hikarutilmitt I did indeed try with a new prefix, both with current proton versions and 5.0-10, the furthest I got was with 5.0-10 but with no way of controlling the game, as previously mentioned.

ghost commented 2 years ago

Can confirm that proton 7.0-2 still has the game completely lock up at launch resulting in a force quit dialog window.
