Hello @magos-linux, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.

err:mscoree:CLRRuntimeInfo_GetRuntimeHost Wine Mono is not installed in the log points to #18.

magos-linux commented 5 years ago

I have installed mono in my distro, but it changes nothing. how can I install mono in proton? I'm using 64 Linux and protontricks refuses to install dotnet*

Patola commented 5 years ago

It needs a 32-bit prefix. There is a recipe to make it work here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamPlay/comments/9qojgb/w40k_dawn_of_war_winter_assault_32bit_prefix_fix/

Patola commented 5 years ago

Notice that even though the recipe is for regular Dawn of War (appid 9310), it works the same for Game of the Year (appid 4570). I tested with my copy and it works perfectly.

Patola commented 5 years ago

Added entry in protondb telling the recipe. Hope it will get more people to play the game on Linux!

magos-linux commented 5 years ago

thank you very much! game now works very well with using this workaround!

wadtech commented 5 years ago

For anybody wondering the fix worked yesterday for me on Mint

I'm having an issue where the game isn't treated as a normal window (regardless of whether or not it's run in windowed mode), so I can't move it around or close it. Also, the game is black when it launches, and the cursor has a custom skin at first, but then it has my default mouse skin.

I don't think Steam works on Wayland. As a Sway user myself, I use i3 to run Steam and games in general.

poperigby commented 3 years ago

Steam works just fine on Wayland besides this.
