Game launches and works except for that the videos are not played (making this game essentially unplayable, as the game is all about finding clues in the videos).

In the logs I see mentions about quartz.dll "170786.849:0027:0028:err:quartz:GetClassMediaFile Media class not found"
The videos are: .AVI, MPEG-4 + MP3 #1464
The game doesnt start anymore with Proton 4.11, tested with Proton 4.11.2, switching to Proton 4.2 makes the game start again.

With Proton 4.11-3 the game launches out of the box, and the same problems remain with video playback. I think the game not launching at all was probably a Proton 4.11-2 specific issue.
I can't see the crash with Proton 4.11.3 the game runs fine. As for the videos I use winetricks verbs ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow to make them play. In fullscreen mode playing a video will minimize the window though
I want to add a new experience with this game. I am using Proton 4.11-9 and my computer locks up when trying to play the game. I have used protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow. It then only shows the first frame of the video while my computer becomes unresponsive. Have to force close the game to use my computer again. Tried using older versions of Proton to no avail.
Any suggestions? system_info.txt
@krvermeulen Dont run the game in fullscreen.
Thanks for the suggestion @farmboy0 but that made no difference.
I installed the game yesterday and used "protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow", and it worked with proton 5.0-7. But with the update to 5.0-8, videos does not work. The game just locks. I've deleted the compatdata folder of the game, used protontricks once again, and it's the same. Yesterday I've not really played the game, just try to see if videos worked, and it was the case. But now, I have to kill the game if I try to launch a video. Edit: I've just tried with 4.11-13, with the protontricks installs, and it's working. It seems it's a regression with 5.0-8.
Hello @Skiski, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
to the game's launch options, reproduce the regression, and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.
I don't know why, but now it's working. I uninstalled the game before trying the 4.11-13 version of proton, so maybe it helped. After having tried with 4.11-13, I deleted once again the compatdata folder, installed everything needed with protontricks, and it's working with 5.0-8. I already tried everything before and it did not worked. The only thing I didn't tried before was re-installing the game. Anyway, it works now with 5.0-8.
The game is now playable without any need for native dlls using latest Wine (7.0-rc5) and dxvk.
I'm not sure if it's possible to backport the necessary changes to current Proton. If not I guess this will have to wait for a new major Proton release based on Wine 7.0.
Is this game supposed to work out of the box by now?
With Proton Experimental I get the classic test pattern video playing and with GE-Proton7-23 I get the audio playing with subtitles but no video.
Video playback is still broken for many (but not all) videos.
The workaround is to install GloriousEggroll's Proton fork, enable it for Her Story (in Steam Play compatibility menu), install protontricks (including command line aliases), run protontricks 368370 ffdshow l3codecx winxp directshow
, and install ffdshow with default settings when the installer window appears.
