On Ubuntu 18.04 with drivers 396.54.09, Proton 3.16-4 Beta (3.7-8 works too) i7-6700HQ and GeForce GTX950M the game just starts and runs without any issues.

Same with desktop with Ubuntu 16.04, and GTX1080 - no issues whatsoever aside from the need to manually configure gamepad or arcade stick controls which isn't Proton/OS or whatever issue but rather just happens to the games which try to detect a controller by themselves, not just relying on xinput. The game just runs "out of the box".

Cuddlypuff commented 5 years ago

was able to run the game perfectly (haven't tried online though) both on my 16.04 ubuntu install and after I upgraded to 18.04 16.04 sysinfo 18.04 sysinfo

Distro: Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa (64 bit) GPU: Vega 56 Driver/LLVM version: Mesa 19.1.0-devel/9.0.0 Kernel version: 5.0.7-050007-generic Proton version: 4.2-3

Problem: Graphical issues with certain characters and backgrounds. I tried it with several different Mesa drivers both unstable and stable. 20190419215247_1

Log is of launching the game, and getting to a stage where I see the glitches on the above screenshot steam-571260.log system_info.txt

System Information

Game still has graphic corruption (this game appears to use OpenGL). Also the game always launches minimized, so it has to be brought up manually.

Including log of launching the game and recreating these two problems. steam-571260.log.zip

It's not a Proton issue. It's a driver issue. Game isn't perfect in windows on some AMD video cards also - similar glitches or black squares. I don't think that it can be fixed on Proton/wine side, it must be fixed in Mesa. Minimizing issue is a Cinnamon issue. Had similar experience with Cinnamon and MATE in Ubuntu with nVidia. And not only in KOF XIV but other games including native ones. I'm not sure if it's related but it happened more often when refresh rate is 120/144hz and game requests 60. No such thing in KDE.

Retest Compatibility Report

Game is working better now with recent Proton and Mesa:

No graphical glitches :tada:, played through stages where I had seen glitches before. ✓ Performance is solid 60fps, no stuttering at all ✓ Nintendo Switch Pro controller worked

The only problem I'm still seeing is that the game is launching minimized when set to fullscreen. Also when Alt-Tab between game and desktop, the controller input is not detected unless pressing a mouse button.

System Information

Dell XPS 9310
GPU Driver: i915
Kernel version: 5.3.19-2-MANJARO
Distro version: Manjaro (rolling as of 16th Oct 2021)
Proton version: 6.3-7

Player 2's character is corrupt/glitched whenever both player 1 and player 2 have the same character out. Runs perfectly fine otherwise.

for king of fighters, it plays flawlessly except that it starts in windowed mode and when you alt-enter, it only shows the bottom right corner of the screen zoomed way in and when you go into setting and change the resolution to fullscreen/4k and hit accept, it will keep switching to the wrong resolution and sometimes have black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. you have to continually switch your resolution back and forth for it to actually display right in 4k. and once you get it to display right in 4k and save the changes, when you exit and re-enter the game, it completley forgets what you set it too and the game is at the bottom right, zoomed in again.

maybe this is a nvidia issue since I'm on nvidia but I thought i should bring this to your attention.
